KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) \u2013 The evacuation prompted by a \u201cpotential threat\u201d at the Kansas City International Airport has been lifted, according to local authorities. <\/p>\n
Shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday, evacuations began in portions of the airport due to the possible threat, a spokesperson confirmed to Nexstar\u2019s WDAF. There was no immediate word on the nature of the threat. Local authorities previously said they were working with the FBI to investigate.<\/p>\n
FBI Director Kash Patel\u00a0said investigators determined the threat was not credible. <\/p>\n
WDAF\u2019s Jacob Sloan, who was at the airport, reported that around 1:45 p.m., travelers and staff were being allowed back in. <\/p>\n
Roads leading to the entrance of the airport, which had been shut down, are expected to reopen soon. Airline departures are also expected to resume. <\/p>\n
The airport was allowing arrivals but not departures during the evacuation, a spokesperson for KCI said. Videos from KCI showed travelers standing and sitting outside the airport with their luggage.<\/p>\n
KCI was similarly evacuated on New Year\u2019s Eve over a potential threat that was later found to not be credible.<\/p>\n
Sunday\u2019s evacuation comes after a Southwest plane flying from Nashville to Fort Lauderdale was diverted to Atlanta and evacuated over a \u201cpossible security matter.\u201d A passenger was removed from the flight, but no charges were filed and authorities determined there was \u201cno credible threat.\u201d<\/p>\n
