RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – The Black Hills Community Theater will be performing the City of Angels, based on the book by Larry Gelbart with music by Cy Coleman and lyrics by David Zippel. <\/p>\n
It is based in the late 1940. Stine, a bookish writer of detective stories, struggles to adapt his crime novel into a workable screenplay. As Stine tries to maintain some integrity in the backstabbing world of Hollywood, his protagonist, a hardboiled private eye named Stone, fights for survival in a city full of criminals and opportunists. <\/p>\n
The show provides an artistic challenge to the designers of the show with Stine\u2019s world being portrayed in full color, while Stone\u2019s appears in black and white. <\/p>\n
The cast is of local actors featuring Dakota Morgan as Stine, the writer, and Tom Powers as Stone, the private eye. Playing important dual roles in the lives of these two men include Leslie Hopton as Gabby\/Bobbi, Rose Lamoureaux as Donna\/Oolie, Dave DeChristopher as Buddy\/Irwin, Kaitlin Petrushev as Carla\/Alaura, Teagan Rosendahl as Avril\/Mallory, Jonah Vasquez as Pancho\/Munoz, Michael Lytle as Jimmy Powers\/Gerald\/Peter and Jonathan Bader as Werner\/Luther. The cast is filled out by the Angel City Four quartet of Garrett Amirehteshami, Tammie McCraw, Lorien Petersen and Brady Riker and an ensemble of various roles performed by Brianna Bohling, Nadya Ciazynski, Hidie Dahl, David Herr, Daniel Petrushev, Sam Powers, Chami Senarath and Jessie Sewell. <\/p>\n

City of Angels is directed by Kristol McKie, a longtime BHCT volunteer who has served on the Board of Directors, appeared onstage in numerous shows and has recently directed Sister Act and Fiddler on the Roof. <\/p>\n
McKie encourages patrons to visit the box office as soon as they can and says of the show, \u201cThis production offers a unique opportunity to enjoy a score inspired by the 1940s, brought to life by some of the finest singers from the Black Hills area.\u201d <\/p>\n
The artistic leadership of this production also includes Assistant Director Andrea Surovek, Music Director Vonnie Houchin and Choreographer Katelyn Amirehteshami. The show\u2019s unique jazz-infused score will be accompanied by a 14-member band comprised of local musicians under Houchin\u2019s direction. <\/p>\n
As with all BHCT mainstage shows, at least one performance will have low-cost community tickets available at the door. Dates for community tickets will be announced on BHCT\u2019s social media pages. This production contains adult content.<\/p>\n
The play is set for March 13, 14, 20, and 21 at 7:00 p.m and March 15 and 22nd at 2:00 both in the Performing Arts Center. The cost ranges between $25-$34 per person.
