Speculation is swirling about who might take over Viggo Mortensen\u2019s role of Aragorn in the upcoming installment of the Lord of the Rings franchise \u2014 and fans have a lot to say about the rumored replacement.<\/p>\n
After it was revealed that Mortensen would not be returning for Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, <\/em>fans of the iconic series have wondered who director Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in the original trilogy, will recast for one of its leading roles.<\/p>\n Now, an unconfirmed rumor first published Saturday by Knight Edge Media <\/em>claims that White Lotus <\/em>actor Leo Woodall has taken on the role made famous by Mortensen. The studio did not immediately return The Independent\u2019s<\/em> request for comment on the rumor.<\/p>\n While the reports have not been verified, devoted fans raced to share their reactions to the potential casting on X.<\/p>\n \u201cLet\u2019s be VERY clear on this. There isn\u2019t a soul on earth that can \u2018replace\u2019 Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn,\u201d one person declared. Another noted, \u201cGood luck replacing viggo mortensen in anything.\u201d<\/p>\n Another criticized, \u201cI have no idea if this is true, but I\u2019m 99% confident this movie is going to be complete garbage no matter what. Another agreed, writing, \u201cHe’s not old enough to play Aragorn.\u201d<\/p>\n However, some fans seemed more open to giving Woodall a chance with the legendary character.<\/p>\n \u201cMy honest opinion is if he has read the books and studied token and made a real effort to really understand why these characters are so loved then I think he will be great,\u201d one wrote. Another shared: \u201cI\u2019m happy with this. If you\u2019re gonna recast THE Aragorn, it\u2019s gotta be a relatively unknown actor in the role.\u201d<\/p>\n Woodall\u2019s breakout role came with season two of HBO\u2019s The White Lotus <\/em>in 2022.
