Dave Coulier and Alanis Morissette dated in the early 1990s<\/p>\n

Jodie Sweetin spent much of her childhood growing up on the set of Full House<\/em>, meaning many of her memories from that time come from watching the adult cast members\u2019 lives unfold around her.<\/p>\n

The actress was only 5 years old when the series began, playing Stephanie Tanner for the show\u2019s entire eight-season run from 1987 to 1995. One of those memories that Sweetin remembers involves her costar Dave Coulier and singer Alanis Morissette, who briefly dated in the early 1990s.<\/p>\n

Their past relationship has long been rumored to be connected to Morissette\u2019s hit song \u201cYou Oughta Know,\u201d and during a recent appearance on the Only Child<\/em> with Bob the Drag Queen<\/em> podcast, Sweetin made it clear she believes those rumors are “true.”<\/p>\n

Sweetin recalled occasionally seeing Morissette around set while the singer was dating Coulier. \u201cLike, early on, he dated her way, way back in the day,\u201d she explained. \u201cShe was like, super young.\u201d<\/p>\n

“I vaguely remember her,” Sweetin admitted.<\/p>\n

At the time, Sweetin recalled Morissette being around \u201c18 or 19,\u201d while Coulier was in his early 30s. When Morissette released her hit song \u201cYou Oughta Know” in 1995, one year after she and Coulier split, Sweetin said the lyrics caught her attention.<\/p>\n

After hearing it, she started connecting some of the themes in the song to what she remembered from that time. \u201cSome of the lyrics in there, I was like, \u2018I know who that’s about,\u2019\u201d the now 44-year-old recalled.<\/p>\n

When asked if any particular line stood out to her, Sweetin pointed to lyrics about a new partner that looks like “an older version” of Morissette.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis next girlfriend looked rather similar,\u201d she admitted.<\/p>\n

The podcast conversation also touched on whether Sweetin ever discussed the rumored inspiration for the song with Coulier himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot at the time, but I’ve since talked to him about it, like, as an adult,\u201d she said. \u201cIt’s like, you know, you kind of suddenly, you age out of being, like, \u2018the kid,\u2019 and then they were like, ‘We’re gonna tell you all the s— you missed,’ you know?\u201d<\/p>\n

Coulier has also addressed the topic publicly himself. In 2022, he appeared on a SiriusXM radio show hosted by Jim Norton and Sam Roberts, where he reflected on his past relationship with Morissette.<\/p>\n

When the song first came out, he admitted the lyrics quickly made him wonder if he was the subject \u2014 it didn\u2019t take long for Coulier to realize that he likely was.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m listening to the lyrics going, \u2018Ooh, oh no. Oh, I can\u2019t be this guy.\u2019 And I went to the record store, bought the CD and I went and I parked on a street and I listened to the whole record,\u201d he told the hosts. \u201cI started listening to it and I thought, \u2018Ooh, I think I may have really hurt this woman.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Morissette\u2019s album Jagged Little Pill <\/em>later won five Grammy Awards in 1996, including Album of the Year.<\/p>\n
