Attractions at Disney theme parks routinely close for refurbishment. Most of the time they are closing to accommodate routine maintenance that is meant to improve the attraction experience or the standard operations of the attraction to ensure it has less unscheduled down time.<\/p>\n

Disneyland Resort just added a fan-favorite attraction to its ride refurbishment calendar<\/strong>. At Mickey Visit, we cover the latest Disney news, like Disneyland planning extensive maintenance to a classic ride and cast member changes on the way to restore the guest experience.<\/p>\n

Disneyland Park Ride Closing for Refurbishment in April<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters will close for refurbishment<\/strong> at Disneyland Park beginning April 13, 2026. The final day to ride before the refurbishment is April 12.<\/p>\n

Onboard the slow-moving, indoor ride in Disneyland\u2019s Tomorrowland, guests join Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story\u00a0<\/em>to blast \u201cZ\u201d targets and defeat Evil Emperor Zurg.<\/p>\n

Disney has not announced a reopening date for Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. That being said, Toy Story 5<\/em> releases in theaters on June 19, 2026. It is hard to imagine Disney not operating a major attraction themed to a flagship franchise\u2019s new movie during the film\u2019s release window.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

For that reason, we would be surprised if Disneyland\u2019s refurbishment of Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters lasts beyond the release date of Toy Story 5<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Other Disneyland Park attractions closing near this same period include Roger Rabbit Car Toon Spin and the Disneyland Monorail, both of which will be closed starting March 30, 2026. See our refurbishment list to see all the attractions temporarily closing soon.<\/p>\n

Disneyland has confirmed to us at Mickey Visit that the closure for Buzz Lightyear Astro Blaster is just a standard refurbishment.<\/p>\n

That said, Disney World is in the middle of an exciting project around their Buzz Lightyear attraction.<\/p>\n

Major Changes Coming to Disney World\u2019s Version<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

On the east coast, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters\u2019 Florida counterpart, called Buzz Lightyear\u2019s Space Ranger Spin, has been closed since August 2025 for a major refurbishment at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World.<\/p>\n

That version of the attraction will reopen in spring 2026 with handheld blasters rather than stationary ones, updated ride vehicles, and a new Audio-Animatronics character, among other changes.<\/p>\n

Disneyland\u2019s ride already has handheld blasters, but we\u2019d like to see the other changes come to the west coast. However, we would expect Disneyland to make a formal announcement if that\u2019s the case.<\/p>\n

If Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters simply remains on Disneyland\u2019s refurbishment calendar without any additional fanfare from official Disney communications channels, we expect the refurbishment to consist of routine maintenance rather than technology upgrades and story-related changes.<\/p>\n

Additional Toy Story<\/em> Ride Also Closing for Refurbishment<\/h2>\n

Disney previously added Toy Story Midway Mania at Disney California Adventure to Disneyland Resort\u2019s refurbishment calendar. That ride will be closed beginning April 6, 2026, with no reopening date announced yet.<\/p>\n

For the same reasons shared above, we would be surprised if Toy Story Midway Mania doesn\u2019t reopen before the June 19, 2026, release of Toy Story 5<\/em>.<\/p>\n

With Toy Story Midway Mania closing on April 6 and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters closing on April 13, it\u2019s possible that both of Disneyland Resort\u2019s major Toy Story\u00a0<\/em>rides may be closed at the same time, something that fans of Woody and Buzz should be aware of before visiting.<\/p>\n

Guests still looking to get their\u00a0Toy Story\u00a0<\/em>fix at Disneyland Resort can still meet characters from the series at Pixar Pier in Disney California Adventure and see the\u00a0Toy Story\u00a0<\/em>float in the Paint the Night parade at Disneyland Park.<\/p>\n
