In addition to being Greg\u2019s daughter, Katie is a professor at Ludlow College and the wife of fellow professor Archie (Dunster), who cheats on her with a grad student named Sunny (Tsai). As noted in \u2019s review, Greg visits the liberal arts college as a guest lecturer, but he accepts the gig with an ulterior motive. He wants to check on Katie, who\u2019s understandably spiraling. And when Ludlow\u2019s president (McGinley) reveals her job is at risk due to erratic behavior, Greg reluctantly agrees to extend his gig for the semester to save her career.<\/p>\n

Clive plays Katie\u2019s messiness, impulsivity, and raw emotions with ease, stealing scenes and evoking a balanced mix of empathy and laughter from viewers. The real-life experiences of Girl Dads Lawrence, co-creator Matt Tarses, and Carell helped shape\u00a0Rooster<\/em>\u2019s anchoring duo, but Clive\u2019s effortless chemistry with Carell is what makes each interaction feel authentic, regardless of tone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI found [the father\/daughter dynamic] easier to carve than I thought, because I was quite intimidated by everything about the project initially. And on our very first table read, I saw Steve and I was like, \u2018Oh my god. I\u2019ve got to go talk to Steve Carell. And instantly it felt it felt a little bit scary and then completely fine,’\u201d Clive told over Zoom. \u201cWhen we finished the table read, we both had to get in a buggy somewhere, and I said, \u2018Oh wow, this is so cool. I\u2019ve never been on a lot before.\u2019 We were filming on the Warner Brothers lot, and Steve was like, \u2018Wait, you\u2019ve never seen it? Oh my god! I have to show you around.\u2019 So he sort of commandeered the buggy. I was wowed about everything. And I think Steve was enjoying seeing it through my eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n
