LOS ANGELES \u2013 Pixar\u2019s \u201cHoppers\u201d opened with $46 million this\u00a0weekend to lead all films in North America, according to industry estimates\u00a0released Sunday.<\/p>\n
The animated science fiction comedy was directed by Daniel Chong and\u00a0features the voices of Piper Curda, Bobby Moynihan, Jon Hamm, Kathy Najimy and\u00a0Dave Franco.<\/p>\n
\u201cScream 7\u201d made $17.3 million Friday through Sunday in its second\u00a0weekend, Comscore reported.<\/p>\n
Director Maggie Gyllenhaal\u2019s horror romance \u201cThe Bride\u201d opened with\u00a0a paltry $7.2 million, a disastrous total for a heavily advertised film with a\u00a0reported budget in the $90 million range.<\/p>\n
The animated children\u2019s movie \u201cGOAT\u201d grossed another $6.6 million in\u00a0its fourth weekend for fourth place, followed by \u201cWuthering Heights,\u201d\u00a0which made $3.7 million in its fourth week.<\/p>\n
Rounding out the top 10 releases were \u201cCrime 101\u201d ($2 million),\u00a0\u201cSend Help\u201d ($1.6 million), \u201cI Can Only Imagine 2\u201d ($1.525 million),\u00a0\u201cEPIC: Elvis Presley in Concert\u201d ($1.523 million) and \u201cDemon Slayer: Kimetsu\u00a0No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle\u201d ($1.3 million).<\/p>\n
After adding another $42 million from international showings, \u201cHoppers\u201d celebrated an $88 million global launch in total, the biggest for an original animated film since \u201cCoco\u201d came out in 2017.<\/p>\n
\u201cHoppers\u201d win was much needed for Disney and Pixar following last year\u2019s \u201cElio,\u201d which was Pixar\u2019s worst opening ever. The studio\u2019s only major successes lately have been sequels and franchises, while \u201cHoppers\u201d is a win for original fare. It also opened higher than 2023\u2019s \u201cElemental,\u201d which eventually went on to become a sleeper hit (\u201cElio\u201d did not).<\/p>\n
\u201cHoppers\u201d had a reported $150 million production budget and opened in 4,000 locations. Directed by Daniel Chong, the movie is about a 19-year-old environmentalist who infiltrates the animal world in the body of a beaver. It features the voices of Piper Curda, Bobby Moynihan, Jon Hamm and Kathy Najimy.<\/p>\n
\u201cHoppers\u201d got a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, 75% \u201cdefinitely recommend\u201d from PostTrak polling and an A CinemaScore, suggesting it should have a long and profitable run in theaters.<\/p>\n
