The song written by Motown founder Berry Gordy<\/strong> and Janie Brown<\/strong>, was first recorded by singer Barrett Strong<\/strong> and was later famously covered by several other acts from the Beatles to the Flying Lizards.<\/p>\n While we\u2019re not sure what Lindsay earned his two cents for, Paul Revere & the Raiders\u2019 music continues to be featured in TV shows and films. The band scored four top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 in the 1960s and topped the chart in 1971 with their version of \u201cIndian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian).\u201d<\/p>\n Over the last decade, songs by Paul Revere & the Raiders have been heard in a pair of acclaimed films. Paul Thomas Anderson<\/strong>\u2019s Licorice Pizza <\/em>featured \u201cIndian Reservation\u201d in 2021 and Quentin Tarantino<\/strong>\u2019s Once Upon a Time \u2026in Hollywood<\/em> included \u201cGood Thing,\u201d \u201cHungry,\u201d \u201cMr. Sun, Mr. Moon\u201d and \u201cIt\u2019s Happening.\u201d<\/p>\n Lindsay also has an eerie connection to the story Tarantino fictionalized in the film. He and his record producer pal Terry Melcher<\/strong> lived in the Los Angeles home at the top of Benedict Canyon before it was rented to director Roman Polanski<\/strong> and his wife, Sharon Tate<\/strong>. It was in that home that Tate was murdered by followers of Charles Manson<\/strong>, in a scene that was loosely recreated by Tarantino in the film.<\/p>\n At a 2019 event at the Grammy Museum, Tarantino shared the stage with Lindsay to discuss the film, Lindsay\u2019s music and the connection to Manson.<\/p>\n \u201cPaul Revere & the Raiders was exactly the kind of band that would have rocked my little socks off,\u201d Tarantino said, per the Los Angeles Times<\/em>, of Lindsay\u2019s band, which was initially known for their matching revolutionary war costumes, as well as Lindsay\u2019s smooth vocals. \u201cAnd the reason Manson knew of Terry Melcher was because of Paul Revere & the Raiders.\u201d<\/p>\n Sometimes, even legends can have a tough time making a decent paycheck in show business.
