{"id":123,"date":"2026-03-08T19:22:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-08T19:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/parkmania.pl\/?p=123"},"modified":"2026-03-08T19:22:00","modified_gmt":"2026-03-08T19:22:00","slug":"pixars-hoppers-leaps-to-no-1-at-box-office-while-the-bride-appears-dead-on-arrival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/parkmania.pl\/?p=123","title":{"rendered":"Pixar\u2019s \u2018Hoppers\u2019 leaps to No. 1 at box office, while \u2018The Bride!\u2019 appears dead on arrival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Disney and Pixar\u2019s environmental adventure\u00a0\u201cHoppers\u201d\u00a0topped the North American box office this weekend with $46 million in domestic ticket sales in its opening weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">After adding another $42 million from international showings, the film celebrated an $88 million global launch in total, the biggest for an original animated film since \u201cCoco\u201d came out in 2017.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\" style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">But it wasn\u2019t all good news for big studio fare at the multiplex:\u00a0Maggie Gyllenhaal\u2019s\u00a0R-rated reimagining of the \u201cBride of Frankenstein story\u201d is flailing. A Warner Bros. release,\u00a0\u201cThe Bride!\u201d\u00a0starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale, debuted to an estimated $7.3 million from 3,304 domestic locations. It cost around $80 million to produce, not including marketing and promotion expenses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The two movies were hardly competing with one another for viewers \u2014 one being a PG-rated family pic, the other an audacious, R-rated, genre-blending ride. \u201cHoppers\u201d arrived to a slew of good reviews, while critical responses to \u201cThe Bride!\u201d were mixed to negative and its audience scores weren\u2019t much better.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cHoppers\u201d win was much needed for Disney    and Pixar following last year\u2019s \u201cElio,\u201d which was Pixar\u2019s\u00a0worst opening ever. The studio\u2019s only major successes lately have been sequels and franchises, while \u201cHoppers\u201d is a win for original fare. It also opened higher than 2023\u2019s \u201cElemental,\u201d which eventually went on to become a sleeper hit (\u201cElio\u201d did not).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cHoppers\u201d had a reported $150 million production budget and opened in 4,000 locations. Directed by Daniel Chong, the movie is about a 19-year-old environmentalist who infiltrates the animal world in the body of a beaver. It features the voices of Piper Curda, Bobby Moynihan, Jon Hamm and Kathy Najimy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cHoppers\u201d got a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, 75% \u201cdefinitely recommend\u201d from PostTrak polling and an A CinemaScore, suggesting it should have a long and profitable run in theaters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cThis is a fantastic original film from the incredible team at Pixar, and it\u2019s wonderful to see audiences coming out with their friends and families to enjoy it together,\u201d said Alan Bergman, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, in a statement. He also congratulated the filmmaking team on \u201ca tremendous launch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cThe Bride!\u201d had a bit of a bumpy path to theaters, with edits being made after reportedly poor test screenings. Its release date was pushed back from September, possibly to give it some space versus Guillermo del Toro\u2019s \u201cFrankenstein,\u201d which played in theaters last fall before hitting Netflix   <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Men made up a slight majority of the audience for \u201cThe Bride!\u201d at 53%. The movie currently carries a \u201crotten\u201d 59% on Rotten Tomatoes and a lackluster C+ CinemaScore. Only 43% of that audience said they would \u201cdefinitely recommend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">And it doesn\u2019t seem like international audiences will be much help: It made only $6.3 million outside of the U.S. and Canada, bringing its global debut to $13.6 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cUnfortunately, we came in light,\u201d said Jeffrey Goldstein, who oversees domestic distribution for Warner Bros.    in a text message. \u201cWe have a tailored approach to our slate, investing strategically in talent, IP and original storytelling. It spans genres and budget levels and allows us to back bold, distinctive filmmakers \u2026 and sometimes things just don\u2019t work out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Warner Bros.\u2019\u00a0other recent release,\u00a0\u201cWuthering Heights,\u201d\u00a0meanwhile, has surpassed $213 million globally. And next week, the studio, which is staring down\u00a0new ownership under Paramount    is\u00a0expected to sweep the Oscars\u00a0between \u201cOne Battle After Another\u201d and \u201cSinners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cWe\u2019re coming off an incredible run of nine No. 1 openings in a row, and in an increasingly \u2018risk-averse\u2019 business like ours, we believe the business is better served with studios taking bold swings on originals like this one,\u201d Goldstein said. \u201cEven the 1927 Yankees had 44 losses that season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Paramount\u2019s \u201cScream 7\u201d landed in second place in its second weekend with $17.3 million, down a whopping 73% and bringing its domestic total to $93.4 million and its global total to $149.5 million. Sony\u2019s \u201cGOAT\u201d came in fourth place with $6.6 million while \u201cWuthering Heights\u201d rounded out the top five with $3.8 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cWhen there\u2019s this many holdovers in the top 10, it says we haven\u2019t had enough horsepower in the newcomers to really get things moving,\u201d said Paul Dergarabedian, Comscore\u2019s head of marketplace trends.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">But he anticipates that will change when the Ryan Gosling-led sci-fi adventure \u201cProject Hail Mary\u201d hits theaters on March 20.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\">Top 10 movies by domestic box office<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">With final domestic figures being released Monday, this list factors in the estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">1. \u201cHoppers,\u201d $46 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">2. \u201cScream 7,\u201d $17.3 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">3. \u201cThe Bride!\u201d $7.3 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">4. \u201cGOAT,\u201d $6.6 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">5. \u201cWuthering Heights,\u201d $3.8 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">6. \u201cCrime 101,\u201d $2.1 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">7. \u201cSend Help,\u201d $1.6 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">8. \u201cI Can Only Imagine 2,\u201d $1.5 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">9. \u201cEPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert,\u201d $1.5 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">10. \u201cDemon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castlee,\u201d $1.3 million.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Disney and Pixar\u2019s environmental adventure\u00a0\u201cHoppers\u201d\u00a0topped the North American box office this weekend with $46 million in domestic ticket sales in its opening weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday.
